Really? In a country that brags about its freedoms, someone who uses a plant for recreation should be a criminal?

1 point

Legalize pot= eliminate drug violence, but don't allow th gov. to regulate anything

1 point

True, but drugs can also open up your mind; exibit A: Bob Marley

1 point

I disagree; a lot of the people who do it now do it because it is illegal. People who sell it can make more money if it is illegal. There should be freedom; legalize pot

2 points

We, as a country, claim to be the "land of the free." Prohibition violates this sentiment. Both marijuana and alcohol shouldbe legal. Cigarettes, which are deady, adictive, and without any benefits, are legal, so pot, which at least has some medicinal purposes, should be legal. The war on drugs is a failing and bleeding cost on the American people. Pot should be legal.

Lesson in US history: War defines the US, war made the US, war will destroy the US

1 point

Right on! Lets look at who the US is hated by, many middle eastern countries because we entered into wars over there for greedy purposes and ruined their way of life. Its only a matter of time before its the US (and maybe Britain if we are lucky) against the world

1 point

Very true, the progressive movement saved the US from becoming a rubish pit. But, I think we need another one; we need to become more liberal about immigration and human rights and we need to become more peaceful

1 point

"Great" Nation? How do wars, colonies and imperialism make a country great?

1 point

Exactly, we don't even know who destroyed it, or even if it was an accident, we just ran in shooting at whoever was the closest and biggest target

1 point

WHAT? So we needed a WAR so that we can have peace? What peace do we have now? We nver have peace.

1 point

Yes it was,and that led to more problems afterward because of the imperialism

1 point

Child Labor is better, if you're in the US, but, because of our demand on foreign made goods, such as Nike, we are causing more child labor in developing lands. This child labor is worse, almost like slae labor

1 point

The only difference between today's media and the media of the Jungle is that was muckraking, while tday I think we are going back towards yellow journalism and while we may be keeping the gov. "change" it's a biased influence

1 point

Why? why didwe need to prove ourselves? Did it make the world a better place? No, it got us more enemies though. Instead of proving ourselves through war (which we have been doing since our beginning) why don't we try peace for a change

1 point

The Revolutionary War let other countries know that the US wasn't going to back down; the Spanish American war just showed that we were wreckless, ruthless, and a little bit insane

1 point

If US didn't get involvedw/ WWI, there would be no WWII, Korean,Cold, Vietnam, or Middle East wars

1 point

WWI was one of the dumbest things the US has ever gotten itself into, probably even worse than the war in Iraq.

1 point

True, this war may have been the cause for all of our following wars. We wouldn't have needed to protect our terriories in WWI &IIif;we didn't have them.

7 points

We still need to have a progressive atitude so we don't lose the progress we have made.

Civil rights need to be protected and expanded to immigrants, both legal and illegal, because it is unfair to withold certain opportunities from someone just because they were born on the wrong side of a man-made line. We should allow free movement to this "free"country.

Also, th environmnt needs to be protected more than ever. Creation of jobs doesn't really matter if the earth is ruined and we don't have a place to work.

I think we should legalize marijuana because we allow smoking and alcohol, which both have certain dangers

Other countries need to have progressive movements too.

1 point

Unions do give some power to workers, but for non-unionized workers, life can suck because of job competition.

1 point

I partially agree with you, business wners should not be trusted, but entire unions might be a little too much

1 point

Collective bargaining supports the worker so they have a say in their own job

1 point

True, collective bargaining helps the worker to support their own rights

1 point

True, the gov. has laws tht support the worker, unions just add an extra load onthe work place

1 point

I don't think unions are needed as much today. In my place of work, tile work, unions actually hurt our business, because they add competitioon to the field. Some factories may still need unions to keep working standards up so we dont go back to what it was like during the industrial rev.

2 points

Our protests are not ruining the business, you are ruining them because ou refuse to accept our demands. If you don't listen to our stikes, why would you ever listen to our petitions? Pinkertons won't be beneficial to either side

2 points

As an unionized worker, I am against the use of Pinkertons. The bosses are wanting to ruin our strikeand our cause with the use of these thugs. If they want us to stop, they should give us what we want instead of treating us like animal.

1 point

I have a solution, pay your employees more, then they won't need their children to work. I think that would be a win for everyone but you, but you are aready rich, so I think you will be alright. Children shouldn't be workiing alonside their parents in these dangerous situations.

3 points

As an unionized worker, I am against child labor and therefore, for this bill. Children shouldn't be working in these conditions, because they are dangerous. Children are too young to be put in harm's way. They could absolutely ruin their lives in an injury. A child's life should be one of play not work.

1 point

As a unionized worker, immigrants will both take away my job and my cause. Also, immigrants provide the same quality of work, so they should be paid the same as I am, not the same as a child.

1 point

I am a unionized worker, therefore, I am for immigration reform to protect my own job. I don't think that it is right to withhold economic freedom from people, but I am also fearful of losing my employment. The immigrants could become scabs in the factory, and the strike woud pointless. Under other circumstances I would welcome any immigrant with open arms, but these circumstances are just too tough.

1 point

That person who is desperate for work may not be as qualified for that job. With a higher wage, you will get better workers

2 points

Would you really pay them the amount they deserve, or would you just pay them whatever you felt like giving so that you could make more money? In the end, by having the "if you don't like it, you can leave" attitude, you will not get qualified workers because they will want a higher wage

1 point

We should have a minimum wage for protection of the common laborer. First of all, minimum wage prevents bosses from ripping off employees with a small wage. Bosses could easily pay a skilled worker a wage of $5 or below. That worker may need to take that because of the lack of other jobs. Also, it would increase competition in the job market because if you say that you would be willing to work for $5 per hour, someone could come in a say that they would be willing to work for $4 per hour and you would lose that job.

1 point

I am against this argument because the extra time provided by the 40 hour would not be used for just "sitting around" it would be used for resting and doing other productive things such as feeding my own family. 40 hours would allow me to be with my family rather than working throughout their entire lives.

1 point

I believe we should have at most a 40 hour workweek because longer than thatis just too much. The business owners are pushing the workers to the point of exhaustion. We don't have any time for ourselves nor any time for rest. I think that if we shorten the work week to 40 hours and creat shifts for the workers, the production will actuallygo up because you won't have as many tired wokers doing intricate labor. It will be safer with a shorter day of work
