The 40 hour work week might also be protecting the children. Think about it for a second, by not having us around as much, we wont be causing trouble and getting hurt all the time. Right? And Kenzie is right, by hiring another employee to serve the other hours, you arent losing anything.
This bill is all about protection and unfairness directed to the children in the workplace. We are willing to work but the governor has noticed that we, the children, are extremely underpaid for the work we do and we might get ourselves killed with one mistake at the machines. This is helping the childrens future.
It sounds like you really want us to be working. Well then i have a proposal: Clean up the environment and pay us fairly! Isnt this what it is all about, unfairness to the children so the governor decided to do something? I think that he is just protecting us from the dangers that are present everywhere in the workplace.
That isnt fair to us children. We cant withstand the same pressure and difficulties the adults around us can. Sure we chose to work here, but we have to. We need to live too you know. Also, by working us like this, you are just wrecking our future, a possibly productive future at that.
If you bring in the pinkertons, more and more people will realize what you are doing and will join our cause. Pinkertons make us workers feel more rebellious towards you businessmen. I can garuntee that if you continue to use the pinkertons, more and more people will feel like rebelling.
I think that they would be good to have around but people are gaining rights as it is and for the most part i think that people won't be paid like that anymore because if you think about it, back then the companies that were unfairly treating their workers because the laws around them werent developed yet. now there are laws to stop this from happening.
I am a child and that sounds great, if you have a lot of money to begin with. Me, I don't have anything. You make the odds impossible for me to go somewhere with my life, if I can even survive on extremely low pay to begin with. If you are making so much money, why can't you help out those of us that are less fortunate?
But once again, you base your pay on those people, the people that don't work. Most big business owners overlook the fact that there are plenty of people underpaid that deserve more money. The minimum wage makes sure that those people that deserve more money are able to survive outside.
As a child, I am in work to make money for my family and the only way that my family will survive is by earning enough money. If the minimum wage goes down, my family will probably starve. On top of that, the work that we are doing deserves a pay that is more than the minimum wage as it is.
I agree with clay that children need to develop in a good environment so that they will fulfill their potential as a person. You big buisiness owners must not remember what it is like to be a child, your mind hasn't developed and your body physically has a lot of trouble handling this grueling work. Plus you don't care about our low level of income or the conditions in which we earn it.
The 40 hour week creates more time for a child to be a child. Too much work would create children that are very one dimensional, they will only know how to work. This doesn't create a dynamic environment in the US, it makes things very unenjoyable. Most people are working for their families but that doesn't mean that they should be completely disconnected from their family either.
